Hello! Another Easter themed project for you this week. A little egg nest for you to make!
I have a real hen's egg in mine but wouldn't it be a nice gift with a tasty chocolate egg inside? Maybe make one and give it to your teacher!
Here's how to do it...
You will need:
- Brown felt.
- Green felt.
- Brown thread and green thread.
- Pins. (Check out my new bobbly ended pins!)
- Pen or pencil.
Cut out two brown felt rectangles about 10cm by 5cm.
Pin them together and cut the bottom corners off like I have in the picture below. This makes the nest shape.
Sew up the sides with over stitch. Click on the GETTING STARTED link at the top right of the blog for sewing tips!
Take out the pin and squash the seams like in the picture below to make your nest shape.
Draw around the inside of the bottom of your nest on to some more of the brown felt.
Cut around the circle you drew a little bigger than it was to get the right shape for the base. Thinking about it, you could just draw around the outside of the nest to get the right size, silly me!
Pop it on top like mine in the picture below.
Sew around the edge of the base. Put your needle in to the side of the nest and come up out of the base, in the nest out of the base, in the nest out of the base, until you get all the way around.
Here's what it should look like:
The branch. Cut a strip of brown felt about 1cm by 5cm, snip a slit in one end like mine. Cut out some leaf shapes. you can have as many as you like.
Have a go at arranging them until you have them placed where you want them.
Stitch the leaves on to the branch with the green thread, I used running stitch to give the leaves a bit of detail too.
Nearly finished! Snip two holes in the side of your nest like this:
Here's where I snipped mine:
Thread your branch through the holes like this:
All done! One very cute little egg nest! I'm going to go to the corner shop and get a couple of chocolate eggs for me and my friend to eat later. Nom!
